Background
Iāve been on Twitter since ~2018. Itās changed my life in the following way:
- One of my Twitter friends set me up on a blind date with the man who is now my husband
- I met all my current housemates through Twitter
- I met many of my closest friends through Twitter
- My husband and I live in New York City because a friend we first met on Twitter invited us to sublet an apartment with him here in the summer of 2021. I had only ever been to New York City once before, for 3 days
- Among other strange happenings, a Hasidic Jewish woman once messaged me on Twitter and offered to bring me to a shabbat for āpeople who listen to the Grateful Dead and are hasidic.ā I went.
Overall, Iāve found Twitter to be a serendipity machine. My friends have gotten jobs and freelance contracts through Twitter, made friends, and found spouses. Twitter can also be a great place to find and talk to other people who share your niche interests.
The Class
This class is for people who are new to Twitter, or who have yet to experience the full power of Twitter.
In this class, you will become a poster.
Weāll do several Twitter speedruns, where youāll post prolifically in a short period of time. Youāll also hear from Twitter micro-celebrities on how theyāve used Twitter to have fun & improve their lives.
Youāll practice good reply game, and learn how to find your people, how to turn online friends to IRL friends and collaborators, and how to share your work.
If youāre unfamiliar with Twitter or TPOT (an online subculture that lead to the creation of Fractal and FractalU), Iād recommend reading Christineās Guide to Twitter.
Please Noteā¦
You will be required to tweet regularly. You do not need to tweet from your main face account if you donāt want to (you will make an anonymous account the first day of class).
- Some example assignments:
- Schizomode: Tweet 5 times a day for a week
- Nerdpoasting: Write a Twitter thread summarizing your favorite book or blog post
- Replyguying: Respond to 10 tweets in your following feed
- Moodboard making: Curate visuals
- Curiositypoasting: Ask your followers a question
- Make a poll
- Do 100 Things: Start a do 100 things project
